- Authors

- Abstract
The article describes the real world application of linkages and straight lines. It cites the importance of linkage in the Industrial Revolution particularly in the production of straight line motion for the steam engine by James Watt. The approximate linear path over a short distance produced by Watt's linkage is illustrated along with a linkage designed by Charles-Nicolas Peaucellier. Reference is made to "How to Draw a Straight Line," by Alfred Bray Kempe. Also mentioned are skeletons of robots made of linkages and programmed to perform tasks.
