- Authors

- Abstract
This article compares the performance on a refinery selection battery of white and African American applicants who were matched with respect to age and years of formal education. Out of the 608 applicants included in the study who met the minimum requirements for employment during a two-month period in 1965, 517 were white and 91 were African Americans. The data in the study indicated that there was a differential effect in the tests as brought out by the ethnic classification. The mechanical comprehension and the non-verbal reasoning tests were defined as spatially oriented, the learning ability test was noted as measuring both the verbal and spatial dimensions. The learning ability tests, along with two non-verbal tests were the most failed tests for African Americans.
