- Title
U.K. MOD Opens Up Competition.
- Abstract
While it has always been British Ministry of Defense (MOD) purchasing policy to encourage competition where appropriate, direct contracts have only been placed with suppliers assessed and registered against North Atlantic Treaty Organization Allied Quality Assurance Publications standards. However, to increase the opportunity for improved value for money the MOD has instituted a scheme for the Open Announcement of MOD Tender and Contract Activities. The scheme will operate on a trial basis for one year, after which time it will be reviewed. The significant effect of this initiative is that firms assessed by third-party certification bodies and firms unassessed by MOD may seek to be in competition with MOD assessed firms for direct contracts.
