- Abstract
A total of 89 pigs with different Duroc contents (D, DL, DYL, DDK, DK) were used to detect the effects of different Duroc content and sex on growth and carcass traits. Body weight recorded at birth, weaning, on-test and off-test, as reached 118.3 kg pigs were transported to a slaughter plant, and carcass traits were collected. Results indicated that D, DL, DYL pigs grew faster from birth to weaning and weaning to on-test weight when compared to those of DDK and DK (P < 0.05). Barrows had higher belly and leaf fat than that of gilt (P < 0.05). Duroc had better average backfat, loin eye area, loin weight and lean percentage than those of DDK and DK (P < 0.05). The fat percentage was the highest in DDK and the lowest in DYL carcass (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the crossbreeding system using Duroc as a terminal sire affects growth and carcass traits with different dam breed, increased with Duroc content could increase the daily gain, lean percentage and decrease the fat percentage.
