- Authors
STAPLETON, PAUL J.
- Abstract
A critique is presented of the eighth century epic poem "Versus de patribus regibus et sanctis Euboricensis ecclesiae," or the York poem, by Alcuin of York, focusing on the liturgical influences on the poem. The poem's depiction of the church history of Northumbria, England, the battle between King Oswald and King Cadwallon in the seventh century, and a description of Oswald's worship of a Christian cross are discussed, as well as the book "Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum" by Bede.
