- Abstract
The article focuses on the 2008 financial market crisis. It shows how to describe the crisis and enumerates its causes including bank strategy, deregulation, and oversight. It stresses that identifying key crisis events and then differentiating between causal and exacerbating factors is critical. The predictable cause is identified as an excess of cheap money pumped out for too long. Efforts to address the policy, regulatory, and oversight issues concerning the crisis are mentioned.
