- Abstract
In the text, the author clarifies the concept of democracy with the main emphasis on the characteristics of the principle of generality of electoral law as a basic criterion of democratic elections. In the context of this principle, the author differentiates between active and passive right to vote, states the difference between the conditions of the right to vote - "electoral censuses" and the conditions for exercising the right to vote. In the article, examples are given of limiting and expanding the principle of generality in the conditions of the Slovak Republic. In the article, the author summarizes the current state of the principle of generality of the right to vote in the Slovak Republic on the basis of valid legal regulations and presents proposals and considerations for strengthening and expanding the principle of generality, especially in connection with obstacles to the exercise of active right to vote.
