- Abstract
SustainabiliLy in economy and industries are interconnected. Latest Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report has drawn a strong correlation between climate change and agrarian economics. 65% of Indian population is dependent on agriculture and as such it is risky for the Indian economy. Business owes its survival and growth to the society and the nation. It is imperative that the organizations have stake holder engagement beyond its key stakeholders-employees, customers, investors and share holders. Many Indian companies are creating stake holder value and driving sustainability practices across their organizational value chain referred as corporate sustainabilily. Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) has matured during the last 15 years and has assumed significance in all areas of management. SSCM has become an important area of lop management focus in Indian industry due to the increasing realization that it is essential for the business survival and growth. In this paper, content analysis technique is used to identify key themes of SSCM in Indian context by perusing more than SO research papers, articles, websites and news paper reports. The analysis is based on the secondary data. It covers major sectors of Indian economy like agriculture, industries like power, steel, cement and medium and small and medium scale enterprises. Degradation and mitigation of damage to resources -air, water and soil is essential factor for sustainable development. Since the role of government and industries are interlinked, the status of actions taken is reviewed to evaluate their commitment level. Lot needs to be done to secure our future.
