- Abstract
A recent study published in BJU International evaluated the effectiveness of a one-day scrotal point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) training course for clinicians in the UK. The course aimed to improve diagnostic accuracy in cases of suspected testicular torsion, a time-sensitive surgical emergency. The study found that after the training course, 74% of delegates were deemed competent to perform scrotal POCUS. The course was well-received by participants, who reported increased confidence in performing scrotal POCUS. However, some participants did not achieve competency, suggesting the need for additional training time and a systematic approach to performing POCUS. The study concludes that the training course could support future trials assessing the diagnostic accuracy of scrotal POCUS in suspected testicular torsion.
