- Abstract
The article examines the international cooperation that has flourished as a result of Somali piracy in the Indian Ocean. The author discusses how Somali piracy has impacted the shipping industry and how countries have sought to reduce threat level posed by pirates operating off the waters of Somalia. The author explores issues related to the rule of law and the efforts of international organizations such as the United Nations Security Council and the International Maritime Organization to combat piracy. The author discusses similar instances where failed states have led to instability and piracy in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore.
