- Abstract
The maximum frequency and the distance between notes were analyzed for 160 songs of Pitangus sulphuratus within and between urban and suburban areas of the municipality of Cali (Colombia), from recording and analyzing the resulting spectrograms. Differences between individuals were determined mainly by variation in the frequency of the third note which gives more weight to use as a basis to differentiate individuals in the field. Additionally, the presence of differences between individuals for distances between notes only in urban areas, suggests that the existence of anthropogenic noise makes necessary the use of more features for the differentiation between individuals. By comparing the songs between populations, there was a differentiation between urban and suburban areas, except for an individual recorded in the EcoPark Pance, whose singing was associated with urban areas. This suggests a possible dispersion of that individual from the urban region to the nearby forest in regeneration. However, the trend found towards higher frequencies for the first two notes of the song in urban areas compared to suburban areas, seems to be an adjustment to decrease the effect of the noise resulting from anthropogenic activities to the social interactions of the species.
