- Abstract
Medical tourism market in Turkey has been growing rapidly parallel to the market growth in the world. Turkey has been distinguished as a top destination for medical tourism besides India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Healthcare Transformation Program in Turkey increased service quality and customer satisfaction and contributed to the development of medical tourism industry in Turkey. In this study, we examined the factors influencing the service quality in medical tourism under three groups, namely psychical, social and human factors. Questions related to service quality in medical tourism have been directed to industry representatives in order to understand their assumptions and answers provided by them have been reported and analyzed in this study. Accordingly, service quality in medical tourism ranks 4th within the strengths of medical tourism industry in Turkey. Primary results of the study show that service quality in medical tourism is overall satisfactory and positive while secondary findings indicate some inadequateness in the industry. In order to increase competitiveness in medical tourism industry, competencies of human resources need to be strengthened; capacities of assistance firms need to be increased and communication problems need to be addressed and solved.
