- Abstract
The present study aimed to examine the role of social and psychological factors in students' interest in scientific Olympiads with emphasis on self-efficacy construct. To investigate the relationship, views from Eccles, Bandura, Hidi, Renninger, Chiu, and Urban were used in the study. This research was carried out through a survey using questionnaires distributed among students from Osku city in the academic year of 1389-90. Stratified samplings were used. 335 subjects were selected as the sample. To measure interest, self-efficacy, family and personal characteristics, questionnaires were used. The research findings were processed using different statistical methods. The findings showed that self-efficacy significantly predicted interest (p<0/01). Value, cultural capital, caring as well as past success and failure predicted self- efficacy. (p<.01)
