- Abstract
The article discusses the Jewish immigrant experiences of the Bittner family in Fremont, Nebraska. The four children of immigrant Eli Bittner journeyed from Poland to the U.S. in 1929 with their mother. The children's names were Americanized so that Michal became Max, Moshe became Morris, Shmuel became Sam, and Miriam became Mary. The author discusses their childhood experiences in the U.S. which included joining the boy scouts, reading juvenile fiction, and their relations with Christian children in school. The article also discusses how the three boys joined the U.S. military during World War II.
