- Abstract
The powerful words of Seipati Bulane Hopa, Secretary General of the Pan-African Federation of Filmmakers, FEPACI (2006–2013) during her tribute to Chantal Bagilishya in 2009, cited at length in this section, reflect its premise: that creating a heritage presupposes the preservation of a tradition. Grounded in the idea of an imagined community of legacy builders, this section brings together a selection of women who have as purpose to build a legacy, to ensure a long-lasting impact, to preserve a heritage. In so doing, the world-making nature of their cinematic endeavors is indicative in the titles of their projects: African film festival, PanAfrican cinema archive, Ghanaian women in cinema studies, film and video collective, PanAfrican audiovisual and cinema observatory, African film production. Hence, this piece explores the endeavors of the women who build and preserve these cinematic entities in order "to be the change they want to see and be."
