- Abstract
The article discusses the history of the city of Pula, now in Croatia, during the period from 1850 to 1991, under the rule of Austria, Italy, and the former Yugoslavia. Topics discussed include the rule of the various governments and the influence of the Hapsburg military base in Pula, the ethnic relations and cosmopolitan aspects of the city, and the relationship between city and national governments.
