- Abstract
When discussing the history of the Men's Basketball World Cup in 1954 (Brazil), 1959 (Chile) and 1963 (Brazil), this article aims to relate the echoes of the Cold War to the squad's disputes and results. We start from the hypothesis that the results of these Basketball World Cups can be better understood if we relate them to the international politico-military relations of that time. Therefore, we use the press as a source of information and the bibliography relevant to the context. As a result it will be evident that, during the onset of the Cold War, the antagonism between US and allies vs. USSR and allies the antagonism reflects on the results of the basketball courts at the World Championships organized by FIBA.
