- Abstract
This work aims at posing aspects of education in Tucumán to answer to what extent the changes caused by the war and the influence of liberal and illustrated ideas modified colonial educational traditions during the first revolutionary decades in Tucumán. We wonder whether the new revolutionary situation involved modifications in setting out education guidelines: objectives, contents, training, and the building of a monitoring system. From a pedagogical viewpoint, these schools were embedded in the colonial tradition although a new educational model was slowly being built. Some renewed strategies, such as the implementation of the Lancasterian method and the attempts to abolish corporal punishment could be mentioned. Nevertheless, these initiatory steps of the State were only narrow expressions of the still restricted progress of public powers over an area which had been almost monopolized by the Church. In practice, this initiative was accomplished by the coexistence of public as well as private-religious and private-lay enterprise, though not everlasting in many cases.
