- Title
Gender differences in earnings: A re-analysis and prognosis for Canadian women.

- Abstract
This article examines the trend in gender earnings gap and the relationship between gender composition of occupation and earnings in Canada. While there is a narrowing trend in the gender earning gap, the remaining considerable gap is even bigger for a woman employed in high wage occupations. Equal value legislation which is not proactive in its enforcement, has a number of limitations. One limiting factor is its compliance system of enforcement which assumes that violations are the exception and not the rule, thereby placing the onus on disadvantaged individuals to trigger enforcement of the legislation's general prohibitions. According to the write-up, it is clear that the current legislation has been ineffective in bringing significant changes in women's wage rates. Therefore until the federal and provincial governments recognize women as an integral part of the primary labor force, the prognosis for Canadian women in the decade of 1990 is not a favorable one.
