- Abstract
The article considers a hierarchical model as a statistical tool in analyzing genomics data. A hypothetical microarray experiment is given to illustrate the complexity and challenge of interpreting computational genomics data. It defines hierarchical model as a model that describes the hierarchical relationships between several sources of data variation. The derivation of a hierarchical model is detailed. Other topics discussed include finding a top-level distribution that fits the data using the hierarchical model, and other applications of the model.
