- Abstract
The article highlights a study which examined the spawning seasons, ovarian maturation stages, and size at first sexual maturity of female Penaeus indicus shrimp in Sonmiani Bay lagoon in Pakistan. The ovaries of female shrimp showed distinctive color changes during maturation. The color and size of the ovary were close related to the germ cells' development and internal organization. The reproductive stages of the shrimp are the undeveloped, developing, nearly ripe, ripe and spent stages. The body size and weight of the shrimp also increased when its ovaries passed through the developmental stages.
