- Abstract
The article discusses the American Nurses Association's (ANA) position statement on nurses' role in providing appropriate care to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Topics covered include the latter's experiences of physical and mental healthcare disparities, and their possible participation in health decision-making but with respect for their autonomy. Also noted are nurses' tasks to assess an IDD person and his/her support system to maximize growth potential.
