- Abstract
Critically reviewing historiographical approaches that analyzed Kepler's astrology in terms of a clash between nature and culture, she suggests playfulness instead as a key to understanding Kepler's astrological pursuits. The last essay in this rich collection by William Blair sets Kepler's treatise of the "New Star" in the context of modern astronomy and the ways current telescopic observation reveals the secrets of "Kepler's supernova remnant." This collection of essays successfully places Kepler's treatise I De stella nova i in various intellectual contexts and clarifies its central role in shaping early modern astronomy.
