- Title
THE CROSSOVER OF THE SUN AND THE MOON.
- Authors
Silva, Fabio; Pimenta, Fernando
- Abstract
The article discusses the alignment of ancient megalithic monuments according to lunar and solar crossovers. The authors explain that crossovers are related to the relative positions of the Sun and Moon in the sky throughout a given year and their motion across the horizon. Lunar crossovers for different phases of the Moon are described, and distinctions are made between equinoctial and solstice crossover events. Megalithic enclosures discussed include dolmens in Portugal and stone rows in Ireland.
