- Authors
Breuker, Remco
- Abstract
The article discusses the issue of forged documents in critical historiography and national identity in medieval Korea. The discussion focuses on the authenticity of a "Ten Injunctions" manuscript, which is ascribed to the founder of the Korean Koryǒ dynasty T'aejo Wang Kǒn (877-943), and the manuscript's reflection of ideas from the 11th century. The assumption that a forgery is an extension of the truth, credibility of document culture in medieval society, and use of false documents to support a point of view are mentioned.
