- Authors
Collins, Karen; Stretch, Benjamin; Advani, Rajeev
- Abstract
This article, published in Anaesthesia, discusses the surgical closure of the neck following thyroid surgery. The authors share their experiences with emergency management of thyroid hematomas and highlight the importance of understanding neck anatomy for anesthesiologists. They describe the key steps in wound closure, comparing skin closure with staples to glue. The authors suggest that guidelines should be updated to reflect the potential need to open the platysma and strap muscles in order to relieve pressure caused by post-thyroidectomy hematomas.
