- Abstract
The article discusses the rise of the in Afro-look in clothing, hairstyle, and lifestyle and of the global Black Consciousness movement in the 1970s. Topics covered include the successful African-Western dress blending, the ascendance of African models Evelyn Kente, Maharana Fernandez, and Princess Elizabeth in elite international fashion, and the journal "Drum's" coverage of them and of African designers. Also noted is the resulting reclamation of African textiles and sartorial techniques.
