- Abstract
The article discusses the practical application of fotonovela, a photo-based comic book which is an accessible form of popular literature, and collaborative storytelling in working with a young immigrant population in Canadian schools. In the first fotonovela project, the idea of sequencing photographs were introduced to the children as a game. Tableau photographs of their first-day memories in a Canadian school were created. In the second fotonovela project, the children research and documented their experience of family food using digital cameras. A storyboard that guided the photographic process and an eight-page comic book were the result of the collective paper-and-pencil brainstorming session with the children. The final fotonovela explored the playground life of the children.
