- Abstract
Ten samples of Agave americana L. leaves gathered from four different climes namely Sichuan Panzhihua, Chengdu, western of Hainan, midland of South Africa and 15 crude extracted samples of Agave americana L. (moisture content 15%-20% ) gathered from 4 typicale zones in Jinsa River dry-hot Valley namely Yunnan yuanmou chuxiong, baoshan shidian, lijiang yongsheng, Sichuan Panzhihua were examined in virtue of acid hydrolysis and extracted with ethanol. Some of useful basic data of steroidal sapogenins has been obtained. Moreover, on the base of the work, we put emphasis on the work of extraction, separation and refinement of the hecogenin. Therefore, an appropriate process was already developed with the hecogenin acetate yield 4.7%. The results shown that Agave americana L. adapted to growth in Jinsa River dry-hot Valley and accumulated high content of Hecogenin as a main component from a total of steroidal sapogenins so that it is benefit to next steps of bioprocessing and chemical processes. Agave americana L. has great potential as a planting in Jinsa River dry-hot Valley and it is expected that the region Jinsa River dry-hot Valley would become a new raw material base for industrial steroidal drugs in China.
