- Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects up to 3% of the population. Patients with psoriasis are at increased risk of developing complications such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression. However, screening for these complications is often not done in up to 60% of patients. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends annual assessment for psoriatic arthritis and screening for physical, psychological, and social wellbeing. Other complications of psoriasis include metabolic syndrome and mental health disorders. Early identification and treatment of these complications are important to prevent irreversible damage. A multidisciplinary team approach involving healthcare providers from various specialties is recommended for the management of psoriasis.
