- Title
Rio's aluminium cuts are "just the start.".
- Abstract
The article reports on the warnings issued by analysts concerning the job cuts at Rio Tinto Alcan's Australian aluminium division. The division is slowing the expansion of its Yarwum alumina refinery to reduce capital expenditure. According to JPMorgan, they expect further production cutbacks if aluminium prices do not recover materially. Analysts from Citigroup suggested that 1.4 million to 2 million of annual smelting capacity needs shedding to rebalance supply and demand.
