- Abstract
Introduction: Break-falls (ukemi) are the most frequently used skills in judo training session. This study aimed to analyze the quantity, the rate and distribution of ukemi in training sessions. Materials and Methods: This study was approved by the UDESC Research Ethics Committee (32/2004). Seventy two male Judokas took part of this study (age 22.3±6.7 years-old and time of practice 9.8±5.6 years). A video camera and scout were used. From the records transcribed from the scout it was identified the number of falls per team and per phase of session training (warm-up WU, without resistance WOR, with resistance WR). The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and analyze of multifactor variance and Scott-Knott test with level of significance set at 95%. Results: Teams showed to be heterogeneous in the number and the rate of falls; the greatest falls occurred in the WU (17.74) and WOR (17.59); the lesser intervals between falls occurred in the WU (6.7 s). Discussion: The high variability in the number of falls among the teams can be explained by different intensities of training used by different coaches. Lesser numbers of falls and the greater interval between falls in the WR phase may be associated with the technical level similar of judokas at the same team, the fact always trained together or as protection to the body itself.
