- Abstract
The article focuses on issues concerning the application of music copyright on nonvisual forms of musical reproduction, specifically the blues, in terms of musical creation, reproduction, and dissemination of early blues recordings. It also examines segregation in the music industry and its effect on African-American blues musicians as well as the implications of borrowing blues music for copyright. The article discusses such topics as the history and definitions of blues music, musician Robert Johnson, and the diffusion of blues music into other forms such as rock and roll. The music industry and the allocation of music copyright are also examined.
