- Title
Private Regulation of Labor Standards in Global Supply Chains: Problems, Progress, and Prospects by Sarosh Kuruvilla, Ithaka, NY, ILR Press, 2021, xii + 330 pp.
- Abstract
The careful, quantitative analyses using this data coupled with document analyses and interviews allowed Kuruvilla to examine the private regulation of labor standards in global supply chains from multiple perspectives. Never believing it to be the solution, I paid little attention to research studying the effectiveness of private regulation of labor standards. One reason I look at trade unions in the discussion of private regulation is that the insufficient progress in private regulation for improving labor conditions appears to me to be a market failure.
