Campbell, Jan
- Abstract
The article discusses the concepts of hysteria and disassociation in relation to the writings by cultural theorist Siegfried Kracauer. It explains that the occurrence of Oedipal and mimetic disassociation is the result of their division between actual world of reality and dream world of being. It mentions that hysterical wishes are interrelated with the mass ornament of modernity. It elaborates Kracauer's notion of cultural unconscious which involves the bodily contingency of the drives.
