The article offers world news briefs related to nature. The European Union (EU) has adopted laws that aim to reduce the number of animals used in experiments without hampering research and ban some types of experiment such as those performed on great apes. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia has restricted the use of federal funds for research on embryonic stem cells. Marc Tessier-Lavigne has been appointed as president of Rockefeller University in New York City.
