The Vengeance of Black Boys: How Richard Wright, Paul Beatty, and Aaron McGruder Strike Back.
- Authors
Rambsy II, Howard
- Abstract
The article discusses the methods used by writers Richard Wright, Paul Beatty, and Aaron McGruder and reveals the significance of presenting more accurate depictions of African American men in works of fiction. It notes that Wright, Beatty and McGruder are able to write narratives that highlight the experiences of young African American boys through insider perspectives that oppose conventional ideologies promoted by white Americans. The article also analyzes how novels like "Black Boy," "The White Boy Shuffle" and "The Boondocks" were developed to oppose social forces that sought to discourage the forward-thinking African American male.
