- Abstract
The article discusses the question of whether liturgical books can be replaced by digital media such as e-books or tablets in the liturgy. Cardinal Sarah expressed criticism of the use of such devices, while liturgical science emphasizes that liturgical books are not consecrated and are intended exclusively for worship. Criteria are established that argue against such use. Books that symbolize the Word of God and are ritually-iconically staged cannot be replaced by digital media. However, for non-symbolically used books, replacement could be possible. It is emphasized that the use of technical devices changes liturgical aesthetics and further research is necessary to clarify where digital media are suitable in the liturgy.
