- Abstract
Recently, adding magnetic powders into traditional brake materials has become an effective way to enhance the tribological and mechanical properties of brake materials. In this paper, tribological tests under conventional conditions of sliding speed, braking pressure and temperature were implemented to investigate the practical application value of a newly developed magnetic brake shoe for mine hoisters. The variations and mechanisms of the friction and wear properties of the magnetic brake shoe under different braking conditions were also studied. The experimental results showed that the mean friction coefficient of the magnetic brake shoe was negatively correlated with sliding speed, braking pressure and temperature, while the wear rate was positively correlated with them. The conclusions indicated that the variations of mean friction coefficient and wear rate were mainly due to the transformations of friction state and wear forms as well as the dynamic variations of friction films caused by changes of conditions (sliding speed, braking pressure and temperature) in the friction process. It is believed that the results have high practical and theoretical values for the application of magnetic brake shoe in mine hoisters and also for the development of new type of functional brake materials.
