- Abstract
This article presents information on association of the--344T/C polymorphism of the aldosterone synthase gene with essential hypertension. Aldosterone synthase catalyzes the last step of aldosterone production from deoxycorticosterone. The aldosterone synthase gene ( CYP11B2 ) is in chromosome 8q22 and consists of nine exons and eight introns [3]. Several CYP11B2 polymorphisms are known, including the T/C polymorphism at position - 344 relative to transcription start. This polymorphism is in the binding site for transcription factor SF-1, which regulates the CYP11B2 expression.
