- Abstract
This article focuses on the symbolism of the stag in the Gallo-Romanic literature of the 12th and 13th centuries. The state of the question deals with the progressive configuration in this literary tradition of two narrative schemes coming from a common mythical substratum: the hunting of the white stag as a ritual associated with sovereignty, and the abduction of the fairy lover benefactor. The main contribution of the article consists in identifying the parody of these narrative schemes in two 13th century works, Jaufré and Aucassin et Nicolette, as well as the sources used by their anonymous authors. A brief note on the transformation of the motif in the prose Arthurian romance completes the overall picture, which is intended to be drawn in the monographic volume in which this contribution is included.
