- Title
Freshwater biology in the UK: Is it all downhill?
- Authors
Hildrew, Alan
- Abstract
The article focuses on the departure of the National Environment Research Council scientists from the laboratories of the Freshwater Biological Association (FBA), and the recent sale of the flagship Ferry House to a property developer. This is symptomatic of the situation facing many of the smaller, specialist groups within the biology community in Great Britain. The FBA, from running one of the foremost freshwater laboratories anywhere, and perhaps the best known in the world, has undergone a precipitous decline in the last few years.
