- Abstract
The article discusses the history of radiochemistry and the confusion surrounding the discovery of elements in the periodic table. A Japanese scientist named Masataka Ogawa believed to have discovered element 43 and proposed to name it Nipponium (Np) after his homeland. However, it was later revealed that he had actually discovered the element Rhenium instead. The true discovery of Technetium, the actual element 43, occurred almost 30 years later by Carlo Perrier and Emilio Segrè. Later on, Edwin M. McMillan and Philip H. Abelson discovered the element Neptunium.
