- Abstract
Due to increased electricity and gas prices, research institutes in Germany are facing higher costs. At the Technical University of Berlin, additional costs of over 70 million euros could arise. The University of Frankfurt consumes 19.86 GWh of electricity and 25.45 GWh of heat annually in its chemical institutes and the Biozentrum. In order to save energy, the universities are aiming to reduce their consumption by up to 30 percent by only heating rooms to 19 °C and not heating corridors anymore. Some universities are also opting for temporary closures of buildings during winter. However, research in the chemical laboratories is expected to continue without restrictions.
