- Abstract
In recent years, classroom researchers have increasingly turned to the use of didactical teaching materials. Mostly addressing objects already designed and fabricated, the majority of studies have focused on the social use of such resources in class. This paper takes a step back in order to observe how didactical objects are developed and tested before going into production. Looking at a cooperation between two schools and a company specialized in digital teaching materials, it investigates the development of a learning software and its corresponding VR technology. It analyzes how teachers and company employees involved one another into each other's working environments and how they, in doing so, made their technical and didactic knowledge mutually available, thereby temporarily transcending the boundaries between school and company. The educational objects developed for application in class thus result from a trans-epistemic process of cooperative regulation between educational "vision" and technological "feasibility". By looking at the various dimensions of the cooperative commercial production of digital educational objects at the stage of prototype development and testing, the paper analyzes the digitalization of school teaching as an innovative social process structured by economic, technological and educational rationalities.
