- Title
National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) Position on Offshore Oil Drilling.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the U.S.'s dependence on offshore oil drilling and presents recommendations by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) in improving the position of offshore drilling. It comments on the oil spill by a BP PLC vessel in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20, 2010 and states that regulation and administration of deep water wells have not been maintained with oil and gas extraction technology in remote environments. NEHA recommends that the oil companies should support legislation to require an accurate contingency plan before issuing any new drilling permit. It also suggests encouraging expert technological assistance from other countries.
