- Abstract
Naming is the branch of Design that creates brand names. The material used to make these names is linguistic and involves, among other characteristics, the spelling form, i.e., the alphabet letters composing the name. This article focuses on Spanish brand names in Spain containing sensational spelling. It shows all the orthographic representations that the Naming designers use or may use. Some letters are examined in detail, and so are some other symbols such as numbers or punctuation marks. The main objective is to describe sensational spelling as a useful strategy for Naming and its effects on the receiver in terms of the communicative impact of brand names.
