The article presents the author's comments on research papers that focus on the roles of cognition and motivation in consumers' decision making and also presents a map or diagram which the author says might clarify the researchers' representation of a relationship between cognition and motivation. Perspectives or theories noted in "A Tenderfoot's Map" include coping motivations, hierarchical consumer goals, information integration theory, representational/cognitive processing domination, and microcultural reasoning structures.
