- Abstract
The article presents a study which looks at the presence and influence of the secondary classic education institution (collège classique) in Québec's contemporary education system and how such an institution was transformed into a place of memory, or lieu de mémoire. It discusses the collège classique as a mythical institution and the former institutions being turned into private secondary schools and being kept alive through works of fiction such as the book "Les belles-sœurs" by Michel Tremblay. It examines the transmission of culture and the quality of language as the main themes in debates concerning classical education since the 1990s and mentions the educational reform introduced during the early 2000s.
