- Abstract
The paper analyzes the dependability of several fault tolerant PLC architectures characterized by imperfect coverage. Their quantitative dependability assessment (safety and reliability) is based on their Markov models. The evaluation of PLC fault tolerant systems takes into account their coverage. Because coverage implementation can be very costly, there were considered different levels of imperfect coverage. It is shown that system modeling in the design phase, in order to obtain dependability indexes, is very useful for designers, who can choose the most appropriate architecture to their needs. The main advantages of the analyse are that it provides a close connection between system dependability requirements and the PLC platform, and provides the possibility to include hardware and software derived requirements.
